Prom 1: First Night of the PromsThe Proms 2014 festival at the Royal Albert Hall kicks off with the Elgar's biblical oratorio The Kingdom - the beautiful 'slow movement' of a musical triptych that started with The Apostles which remained unfinished at the composer's death. Celebrated Elgarian and Proms favourite Sir Andrew Davis, a conductor laureate of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, returns in his 70th-birthday year, joined by a distinguished cast of soloists including Erin Wall, Catherine Wyn-Rogers, Andrew Staples, and Christopher Purves who are joined by the BBC National Chorus of Wales.

About Royal Albert Hall

Classical music, rock, pop and jazz, sporting events, galas, banquets and balls and the world-famous Proms series all take place within the Royal Albert Hall's iconic oval walls. One of London's most versatile venues, it is a favourite of performers from Jose Carreras to Kylie Minogue. More about Royal Albert Hall
