Prom 39: BBC National Orchestra Of WalesSitar player Nishat Khan performs the world premiere of his The Gate of the Moon (Sitar Concerto No. 1), a piece commissioned by the BBC and performed by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales under the baton of David Atherton. Two visions of India are presented through Gustav Holst's Indra, a musical portrayal of the Hindu god of rain and storm, and Khan's The Gate of the Moon. After the interval Vaughan Williams's A London Symphony, first performed in 1914, paints a portrait of the capital city before the war.
