Pull Out All The Stops - An Organ CelebrationCelebrating the complete restoration and return of the Royal Festival Hall's organ, the Southbank Centre is hosting Pull Out All The Stops - An Organ Celebration, which also marks the instrument's 60th anniversary. First installed in 1954, the Hall's magnificent organ originally took four years to build and became an integral part of the venue. However, during the Royal Festival Hall's 2005 refurbishment, only one-third of the organ was restored which resulted in the instrument being unable to perform the complete orchestral and solo repertoire for which its design originally allowed. Fortunately, as a result of the Pull Out All The Stops campaign which raised 2.3million, the organ has been fully restored and audiences will be able to hear the whole instrument for the first time since 2005. For the celebration, the Southbank Centre has commissioned eight new works by the likes of John Tavener, Peter Maxwell Davies, Martin Creed and Simon Holt. The opening gala on 18th March will feature organists John Scott, Isabelle Demers, Jane Parker Smith and David Goode, while celebrity recitals during the festival include performances by John Scott, Olivier Latry and Thomas Trotter. There will also be the chance to hear major works performed by Southbank Centres Resident Orchestras in the Royal Festival Hall for the first time in almost a decade.

About Southbank Centre

London's hub of cultural arts, The Southbank Centre announced in March 2013 that it's set for a £100 million revamp that will see the 1960s design finally move into the 21st century with a proposal that includes a floating glass pavilion, two more roof gardens, a space for riverside arts and a large pedestrian area.
