Punch and Judy FestivalThere's fun to be had for all the family when more than a dozen Punch and Judy Professors from across the nation make their annual visit to the Covent Garden, the home of the Punch and Judy Festival. This unique festival held in the North Hall of Covent Garden Piazza is organised by the Punch and Judy Fellowship to celebrate Britain's much loved national puppet show. The links between Covent Garden and the show are rooted in early literary history. In 1662, Samuel Pepys wrote in his diary, after visiting Covent Garden, "Thence to see an Italian puppet play that is within the rayles there, which is very pretty, the best that ever I saw, and great resort of gallants." This is taken to refer to a Punch show put on by an Italian puppeteer and, ever since, Covent Garden has been seen as the home of Punch and Judy. Kids and adults alike will certainly go home entertained after this timeless puppet show exhibition.

About Covent Garden Piazza

This is where Covent Garden Market takes place but there's also an open-air cobbled area where miming and juggling acts can often be found. The 40ish market stalls sell a variety of quality goods: antiques, craft items, pictures and handmade clothing so it's a great place to find gifts. More about Covent Garden Piazza
