- Visitor Information
The nation of Qatar was recently named as the future host of the 2022 World Cup, so they will be looking to promote both their sporting and cultural heritage when they set up camp at the London Institution of Engineering and Technology at Savoy Place. Qatar has 12 athletes competing in swimming, shooting, athletics and table tennis. Notably, for the first time since Qatar joined the Olympic Games in 1984 the team will include female athletes, an occasion that will be celebrated in the themes of Bayt Qatar (Qatar House). The Persian nation has taken over three floors of the IET for 16 days, and are keen to showcase three themes: women in sport; technology and innovation in enhancing athletic performance; and their successful World Cup 2022 bid. The committee has lined up an array of traditional food and drink, native music, film screenings, fashion shows and discussions, plus a Hall of Fame highlighting some of the Arab athletes' sporting accomplishments. The hospitality house will be open over the Holy Month of Ramadan, so the decoration and some of the discussion topics have been chosen to reflect that. There will be both a Souq area, A Majlis, and hanging screens to bring the spirit of Doha to central London. Qatar House will be open to Heads of State, Members, Athletes and the media.
