Rambert Dance Company combines classical ballet and experimental rawness in an electrifying fusion, keeping the company on the cutting edge of dance over 80 years after its inception. Watching the dancers' achingly beautiful moves is a mesmerising experience as they glide with consummate grace and then extend the dance vocabulary with touches of incisive inspiration. As Rambert returns to Sadler's Wells with a triple bill of work, its programme is as innovative as ever. Artistic director Mark Baldwin has created a striking new work, The Comedy of Change, in response to Darwin's bicentenary, skilfully blending the art of science and the art of dance into one breathtaking and thought-provoking celebration. The creation (no pun intended) takes three elemental themes from Darwin's theories - same/different, past/future, conceal/reveal - which are then expressed visually to Julian Anderson's evocative score on stage. The two other works on show are Siobham Davies' inventive Carnival of the Animals, named after Saint-Saens' beautiful music to which it is set, and a new piece by rising star Henri Oguike.
