This show of works by the New Delhi Raqs Media Collective is one of two exhibitions to mark the re-opening of the Photographers Gallery on 19th May 2012. Photography fans will be queuing up to see the results of the gallery's two-year closure for a ?8.9 million redevelopment which began in autumn 2010. The show, created by the Delhi-based artists Jeebesh Bagchi, Monica Narula and Shuddhabrata Sengupta, includes a silent looped video projection of a photograph by James Waterhouse, of surveyors working in Calcutta in 1911. Running in parallel at the gallery, a solo exhibition of photographs by Edward Burtynsky reveals his 10-year investigation into oil.

The Photographers' Gallery - Britain's leading centre for contemporary photography - is undergoing a major building project with their grand new premises due to open in 2012. In the meantime, the gallery has moved from Great Newport Street, its home for the past 27 years, to occupy the buildings in Ramilies Street that will be completely renovated by Irish architects, O'Donnell + Tuomey.
