Returning from a month in Spain, the influence of the great Spanish painters, Goya and Velasquez, can clearly be seen in the new works of Rebecca Taber. Concentrating on our emotional scars - or 'souvenirs' as Taber calls them - her work focuses on the way the we're bonded to our past and to each other. This translates into vibrant and vivacious paintings which are carefully layered using both figurative and abstract elements. The bright colours fill the gallery with a raw and infectious energy and convey the feeling of desire which is a focus for this exhibition. Looking at the venue, fans of the UK's 'Apprentice' TV show may recognise the Brick Lane Gallery which was featured in a recent episode - the team who took over this gallery won the challenge, shifting £6,000 worth of art, not bad for a bunch of beginners.
