Adrian Lester, who together with his Othello co-star, Rory Kinnear, jointly won the best actor prize at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards, returns to the Tricycle Theatre to star in Red Velvet, an award-winning period drama based on Othello and the true story of Ira Aldridge. The Hustle actor reprises his award-winning turn as the young black American actor from the nineteenth century, starring alongside Charlotte Lucas, Eugene O'Hare and newcomer Rachel Finnegan.
Located in Kilburn, the Tricycle Theatre specialises in new work with political themes, and are notable as pioneers of verbatim theatre. The theatre was founded in 1980, and rebuilt after a devastating fire in 1987. After a few more expansions, the Tricycle Theatre now has a 230 seat theatre, in addition to smaller theatre/workshop space (the James Baldwin Studio), a workshop room (the Creative Space), and a cinema.
