It's an object of shame and pride; it inspires laughter, awe and fear; it's a symbol or power and lust, yet it's both fragile and ugly; it can be a sound pound of flesh or a spam gram of winkles; often used to express love, it's more frequently shrouded in guilt (and a pair of ghastly Y-fronts). Most of the time, it just wees. Richard Herring's Talking Cock is "man's answer to the Vagina Monologues" (The Guardian), a study of masculinity, cultural identity and sexual anthropology - as well as a chance to joke about flutes of love, flesh canoes, porridge guns and schlongs. First performed in 2002, Herring's tenth anniversary update of his critically acclaimed show comes to the Bloomsbury for back-to-back nights of what The Metro describes as a "constantly pleasurable hour" despite its "stiff proposition". We only wish it could be a little longer...
About Bloomsbury Theatre
Owned and part-funded by University College London, the Bloomsbury was completed in 1968 on the site of a bomb-damaged church. The years have not been kind to this style of architecture and its plate glass and dark brick front now looks drab and un-theatrical. More about Bloomsbury Theatre
