Now in its sixth year, the Romanian Film Festival at Curzon Mayfair is in a state of flux. Directors have often dealt with the impact and aftermath of Ceaucescu's reign but the theme of this year's event All Change! is about movements - the artistic one emerging in Romanian cinema and the stories of lives changing. Stere Gulea cuts a swathe through the ever-changing landscape from his 1988 classic Morometii, adapted from the first volume of Marin Preda's novel about the erosion of traditional peasant life between the wars to his recent drama Weekend with My Mother, which takes emigration as its theme and explores it through this contemporary story. The festival opens with a real highlight, tragicomedy Silent Wedding - a fairytale treatment for a wedding disturbed by Stalin's death, starring Victor Rebengiuc who stood up against the communist regime and was among the group who stormed the television building to broadcast Ceausescu's downfall. A truly revolutionary film festival!About Curzon Mayfair
This swish venue is one of London's most attractive cinemas and has a long pedigree of showing art-house films. Housed in a Grade II-listed building, the Curzon Mayfair has one of the largest screens in London, as well as a fabulous bar. More about Curzon Mayfair
