Romeo And JulietShakespeare is a tough act to follow but putting the story of the star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet, to music is always a crowd-pleaser and Sergey Prokofiev's score remains the most evocative and enduring version. The ballet has become one of the most popular works in the Royal Ballet's repertoire since Kenneth MacMillan's brilliant choreography burst onto the stage in 1965 with Margaret Fonteyn and Rudolph Nureyev in the title roles. Set against the background of Renaissance Verona, the tragedy is given poignancy by the fragile beauty of the movement. This is a classic ballet, beautifully staged with rich period costumes and designs - you'll be captivated from the first sparks of love through the heart-rending misunderstanding to Juliet's fateful last moments.

About Royal Opera House

This impressive building in the heart of Covent Garden has been playing host to major stars of the classical music world since 1858. The third theatre to be located on this site, today's Royal Opera House is the result of a reconstruction in the 1990s (although the main auditorium is part of the original building).
