The Globe'sYoung Hearts Season is opening with the most tender and troubled young hearts in all of Shakespeare, maybe even literature; Romeo and Juliet has been tugging at heartstrings for over four centuries and watching it at this splendid open-air theatre is the nearest you'll get to experiencing the play Elizabethan style. "In fair Verona, where we lay our scene", Simon Daw's designs take audiences back to the Renaissance and as the play bursts open with a clash between the Montagues and Capulets, the fate of our "star cross'd lovers" is set in motion. Artistic director Dominic Dromgoole directs Romeo and Juliet for the first time, having already plunged headfirst into Shakespearean tragedy with Antony and Cleopatra and King Lear in previous Globe seasons. Add a cast of fresh talent including Adetomiwa Edun and Ellie Kendrick in the title roles and this is a thrilling prospect.
