Arnold Wesker's post-war drama of rural life, Roots, follows the story of a young woman who returns to her Norfolk home with bold new ideas that clash with the countryside way of life. The Donmar Warehouse production stars Jessica Raine - best known for playing the lead role of midwife Jenny Lee in the BBC1 drama series Call the Midwife - and is directed by James Macdonald.

About The Donmar Warehouse

Housed in an impressive red-brick industrial building - at various times a brewery, a banana warehouse and a film studio - this tiny repertory theatre is one of the great success stories of the 1990s. Created as a studio space for the RSC in 1977, it became a shabby but popular fringe theatre in the 1980s, a testing ground for producers with big ideas but little money.
