Set in sixteenth century Venice, the play follows free-spirited artist Galactia who is so determined to recall the carnage suffered during the Battle of Lepanto that she forces the authorities to imprison her. Her younger lover Carpeta is then approached and takes the commission for himself. Fiona Shaw stars in Howard Barker's provocative drama, which is directed by Tom Cairns and runs at the Lyttelton Theatre until December 9th.

About National Theatre: Lyttelton Theatre

The Lyttelton is one of three theatres which make up the National Theatre. It was built in a proscenium style, but has thoroughly modern sightlines and acoustics. There really is no bad seat here as there are no circle rails or view-blocking pillars. More about National Theatre: Lyttelton Theatre
