Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry's spiky wooden timber structure, temporarily erected in Hyde Park as this year's Serpentine Pavilion, is his first ever built in England. Gehry, best known for designing the magnificent Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, has come up with a building partly inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's wooden catapults, partly by beach huts. Raised on four stilts, the pavilion contains places for reflection and for performance. To this end, Park Nights, a series of late night events in and around the pavilion, runs between July and October. Pianist, composer and conductor Thomas Ades kicks off the live performance programme with a recital on 19th July at 8pm.
