Taking place throughout all the galleries of the Camden Arts Centre, this major exhibition provides a rare opportunity to encounter works by late British artist Shelagh Wakely. Known for combining visual art, architecture and design in an original and personal way, Wakely succeeded in transforming simple images and forms into myriad meanings and associations. The exhibition has been developed with her friend and collaborator, Brazilian artist Tunga and will include print, video, unfired ceramics, a series of pencil and wire drawings, and an intricate floor installation. There will also be a display of works by a younger generation of artists who have taken inspiration from Wakely's legacy.
The Camden Arts Centre has become a prime location for top class arts exhibitions thanks to a radical renovation in 2007. The design, by Tony Fretton Architects, created a modern, light and spacious venue while retaining many original features such as the entrance arches, terrazzo flooring and tall, stone dressed windows.
