Snow White On Ice

With a flourish of pirouettes and triple axles the dancing-on-ice version of Snow White comes to the New Wimbledon Theatre. The perfect family show for a cold winter's night, Snow White is performed by the Russian Ice Stars, a company of professional ice skaters many of whom have represented Russia in the sport. In this on-ice adaptation of the classic fairytale of the girl who takes a bite of the poisoned apple, the acting is just as powerful as the ice skating. With the show designed to be performed in the theatre, rather than the ice rink, the skating element is restricted to the relatively small stage. So instead of the skaters speeding around the ice you get well considered performances and comic elements creating a cast of characters you can really engage with. The physical movements are a mix of circus acrobatics, near-impossible contortions and steps like the pas de deux borrowed from ballet. The excellent choreography is down to Cavaliere Giuseppe Arena, a highly respected dancer who trained with Milan's La Scala Ballet Company and has 15 years experience as a choreographer. With a storyline that follows the original tale of the enchanted mirror, the wicked witch Altea and our hero, Prince Charming, this age-old story is given an enchanting re-tellling.
