Lucky Londoners are getting a sneak preview of the line-up at Standon Calling, the boutique festival which takes place at the end of July in the grounds of a 16th century Hertfordshire manor house. For a taster of the main event head to Cafe OTO on Saturday 4th July where a sample of the street theatre and literary line-up gets an airing. At Cafe OTO, poet, author and founder of the book club boutique Salena Godden is joined by singer and performer Rachel Raynor bringing Salena's free weekly spoken word book club from Soho's drinking dens to Dalston. There's also interactive theatre from The Heritage Arts Company who've worked with Punchdrunk, Kneehigh and The National Theatre. Meanwhile, Craig Taylor performs selections from his new book One Million Tiny Plays about Britain (as seen is his weekly column in the Guardian's Saturday magazine). It's the one where snippets of overheard conversations are played out for the nation's weekend amusement. On the following day, Sunday 5th July, from 1.30pm the Family Picnic at Stoke Newington's Clissold Park mixes face painting with nursery rhymes and games - you just need to bring your own picnic. About Clissold Park
A pretty, local park, Clissold is more than worth a visit if you're in the north London area. Free from the crowds that often seep into more central parks, this dainty, 54-acre space offers many excellent park amenities without the accompanying hoards. More about Clissold Park
