Some films work better for outdoor screening than others, but it is hard to imagine a film better suited to this screen in Kensington Gardens than 'Donnie Darko'. The finest teen movie so far this century sees Jake Gyllenhall facing his demons in the form of a six-foot rabbit called Frank.
It's a thoroughly sinister film. Though full of humour and romance, it also steps behind the facades of a close rural community, into a world where nightmare and reality collide. The trees and leaves of Kensington Gardens should feel a good deal less comforting on your way home.
The brilliant soundtrack, which produced an unlikely Christmas Number 1 for 'Mad World' is performed live by the National Symphony Orchestra. |
