This two-week festival bringing Indian music and dance into the spotlight is one of the most exciting events of the year for Sadler's Wells. With composer Nitin Sawhney and dancer-choreographer Akram Khan at the helm of Svapnagata, meaning 'dreaming' in Sanskrit, this programme of performance cannot fail to dazzle in its display of the colours, beauty, traditions, rhythms and fusions coming out of India. The festival's centrepiece is the unique collaboration between Sawhney and Khan, Confluence (26th-28th November), in which the two artists look back over their creative partnership and draw on the experiences and influences that have affected them and become part of their work. It's a story of a coming together of creative souls, featuring a new piece of choreography by Khan that is given flight by Sawhney's specially commissioned score. Svapnagata is bursting with inspiration but a few of our picks are the world premiere of Khan's collaborative solo piece Gnosis (16th November), Neelam Mansingh Chowdhry's imaginative weaving together of folk tales in Nagamandala (20th November) and the Trilok Gurtu Orchestra (22nd November), which brings together classical sounds from the East and West in wonderful harmony.
