Ballet legend and Former Royal Ballet Director Frederick Ashton designed this Cinderella for the company in 1948. It was his breakthrough work, the piece that confirmed Ashton as one of the master choreographers of the 20th century. The original score by Prokofiev brilliantly evokes the drama of Cinderella, and for nearly 60 years this version has been a popular Christmas favourite.
This timeless fairytale has all the best elements of popular theatre: beautiful servant girls, dashing princes, snarling ugly sisters and some fantastic dance set-pieces. This is among the more traditional pieces on offer in London this year, and the Royal Ballet's tribute to their inspirational leader is sure to be as popular as ever.
