The Takacs Quartet begin their complete cycle of Beethoven's string quartets with two concerts in November at Queen Elizabeth Hall. This is the first of the three complete Beethoven cycles presented at the Southbank Centre in the 2009/10 season and the Hungarian Quartet's opening two of six all-Beethoven string quartet programmes (the series continues in January 2010 and concludes in May 2010). The award-winning Takacs Quartet have garnered international praise for their scintillating interpretations of Beethoven, with their complete recording of the quartets described by The New Yorker as "the most richly expressive modern account of this titanic cycle". A pre-concert talk at 6.15pm takes place on both days while the opening concert will be followed by a debrief in which the members of the Quartet will discuss the performance.
