Director of the London Transport Museum, Sam Mullins, presents the third and final illustrated talk held to mark the 150th Anniversary of the London Underground, just one of a series of events held to celebrate the landmark birthday in 2013. Out of Choas is an appropriate title for his talk which reflects on the Underground's most recent fifty years. In the 1970s and 1980s the Tube was looking less like a pioneering travel system and more like a network failing to keep pace with advances in technology. It's fortunes changed with the construction of the Jubilee line extension in the 1990s and more recently, it rose to the challenge of carrying more passengers than ever - with a peak of 4.4 million passengers on one day during the 2012 Olympics.
About London Transport Museum
After a two-year, £22 million refurbishment the London Transport Museum reopened on 22 November 2007 revealing more exhibition space than before. The museum travels back through the 200-year history of public transport, arranged according to several themes: London Transport's famous design heritage, the poster collection, public transport during both World Wars and plans for the capital's development in the twenty-first century.
