Tate Britain Commission 2014: Phyllida BarlowThe annual Tate Britain Commission, which fills Tate Britain's Duveen Galleries with a piece of specially created contemporary art, will be by sculptor Phyllida Barlow this year who will unveil her largest and most ambitious work in London to date. She "prefers to work with found objects, or easily accessible, unglamorous, DIY materials" according to the Royal Academy magazine which puts her renewed popularity down to a 2010 show at the Serpentine, after which she was taken on by Hauser & Wirth. "Now she is in demand as never before." The brief for the Tate commission is to make work "in response to Tate's collection of British and international art and to the grand spaces of the Duveen Galleries at the heart of Tate Britain".

About Tate Britain

Overlooking the River Thames, Tate Britain was originally founded through the philanthropy of the sugar magnate Sir Henry Tate. The Tate legacy now encompasses three other galleries around the UK, including Tate Modern also in London. Dedicated to showcasing Britain's artistic talent, Tate Britain is home to the greatest collection of British art from 1500 to the present day. More about Tate Britain
