The Alternative Village FeteReturning for a second year, The Alternative Village Fete comes to the National Theatre as part of the free outdoor festival, Watch This Space. This year the fete, backed by Camberwell-based live art company, Home Live, has been extended across the whole weekend, taking place on both Saturday and Sunday of the Watch This Space closing weekend. If last year's event is anything to go by you can expect an urban twist on the traditional village fete with quirky street theatre and activities centered on vegetable animal sculptures and knitted cows. If you're planning to turn up on Saturday, don't forget your ukelele - visitors are invited to partake in a mass Ukelele Jam. The stage will also be given over to contemporary ceilidh and dancing to anarchic brass. There will be plenty of activities in which you can take part - from fete games to traditional craft-making for today. The following day, the 'Sunday Picnic' celebrates harvest time and showcases the more obscure side of food. You can get involved in preparing, cooking and tasting the food while listening to urban folk fusion on stage.
