Following the cleaning of Constable's full-size oil sketches for The Hay Wain and The Leaping Horse which hang in the British Museum, visitors are invited to the free exhibition The Art of Seeing Nature which not only reveals the colours John Constable intended but also examines the work which goes into their conservation. The South Kensington museum has an unrivalled collection of the artist's work and displays 49 of his oil sketches in the room next door. See both displays to follow the development of his style from early studies to sketches rapidly painted in the open air, leading to his expressive late works.
