The Boy Who Climbed Out of His FaceWith their new show, The Boy Who Climbed Out of His Face, performed in a collection of shipping containers on a jetty on the Thames at the East Greenwich Coaling Jetty, Shunt are back in style. The experimental theatre company which has made its name creating immersive, site-specific experiences in London's hidden spaces over the past 16 years, transforming places like the Vaults under London Bridge Station into a stage, Shunt challenges the definition of theatre. In their latest production, inspired by Charles Kingsley's The Water-Babies and Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness but like neither, 30 barefoot audience members dis-appear inside the temporary performance space surrounded by water every ten minutes and are spat out 45 minutes later. Expect a "disorientating multi-sensory event" set against the backdrop of the river.

About East Greenwich Coaling Jetty

Originally designed as a coaling jetty to receive and unload coal to fuel Blackwall Point power station, The Jetty has been turned into a temporary platform for immersive performance and the site is being developed alongside NOW Gallery, a new space for art and design.
