This dancing double bill at The Royal Opera House combines the contrasting creations from Fredrick Ashton and Kenneth MacMillan. Showcasing two of The Royal Ballet's definitive styles and offering audiences a rich and varied experience. The first act, The Dream revolves around the disagreement between Oberon and Titania in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. The fairy king and queen clash to great comic effect and are accompanied perfectly by music from Felix Mandelssohn. Song of Earth is a melancholy and poetic understanding of Gustav Mahler's song-cycle. It depicts intense themes of life, death, and the relationship between Man and Woman. Conducted by Barry Wordsworth, the Music Director of The Royal Ballet.
About Royal Opera House
This impressive building in the heart of Covent Garden has been playing host to major stars of the classical music world since 1858. The third theatre to be located on this site, today's Royal Opera House is the result of a reconstruction in the 1990s (although the main auditorium is part of the original building).
