The Esterhazy Singers, a London choir specialising in the music of Joseph Haydn, presents the Austrian composer's Creation Mass and a new work by Cecilia McDowall at St Giles Cripplegate. Named after the Hungarian prince for whom Haydn composed much of his music, The Esterhazy Singers are conducted by the aptly-named dynamic young conductor Esther Jones (for whom the adjective hazy could never be applied). The Creation Mass, Haydn's penultimate Mass, was composed in the summer of 1801 as a central part of the name-day celebrations of the Prince's wife (and Haydn's friend) Princess Maria. The second half of the concert will see the choir perform the London premiere of the award-winning McDowall's Thy voice O harmony, composed in honour of Haydn's bi-centenary. The whole programme is complimented by one of the UK's most outstanding young organists, Daniel Moult, playing motets by Bruckner and Mendelssohn.
