A revival of a 1960s musical by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt, The Fantasticks tells an allegorical story about a boy and girl in love and the parents (and garden wall) that come between them. Loosely based on the play The Romancers (Les Romanesques) by Edmond Rostand, The Fantasticks draws on elements of the story of Pyramus and Thisbe, Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night's Dream. In a small American town, two neighbouring fathers have put up a wall between their houses to ensure their children fall in love - because children always do what their parents forbid. All goes according to plan when the children fall in love but things start to unravel when they discover they've been tricked. Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt's classic score features titles including Much More, I Can See It and the familiar Try To Remember. Directed by Amon Miyamoto.About Duchess Theatre
The Duchess Theatre is one of the smallest in The West End, which is not entirely a bad thing. The seating is almost on top of the stage, creating an intense engagement between audience and actors of the kind usually reserved for the fringe. More about Duchess Theatre
