English National Opera's first new staging of The Force of Destiny in over 20 years is directed by Calixto Bieito, who sets the production in the 1930s, during the Spanish Civil War. Having taken over at ENO in September this year, new Music Director Mark Wigglesworth conducts Verdi's sumptuous score, with a world-class cast including star tenor Gwyn Hughes Jones and soprano Tamara Wilson as youthful lovers Don Alvaro and Donna Leonora di Vargas. Baritone Anthony Michaels-Moore - who gave "The best singing of the night" (Bach Track) in the recent ENO 'Traviata' - plays her brother Don Carlo di Vargas.
