The Genius of HitchcockThe British Film Institute has been working long and hard to try and restore some of Alfred Hitchcock's early masterpieces; their aim is to present The Genius of Hitchcock as part of the London 2012 Festival with nine surviving silent films by Hitchcock, together with brand new live musical scores. One of the films on the list is The Lodger; released in 1926 this was Hitchcock's original suspense thriller and is now known as his first trademark movie. It focuses on a landlady who suspects her strange lodger may be on a killing spree, the killer known as 'The Avenger' is in fact targeting blonde women in the city. On July 21st, the Barbican Centre will be hosting the world premiere of the restored version, allowing for viewers to squeal and scream and appreciate this visually imaginative masterpiece. Hitchcock is known as one of the greatest directors of all time; film companies even referred to him in all his titles; Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. He managed to cast characters perfectly as well as having an innovative thought process, an example being from The Lodger, where he installed a glass floor so he could show the lodger pacing up and down his room from below. This festival is a chance to bring these pieces of work back to life once more; donations can be made through the BFI website to help complete this project.
