The Great British Seaside: Photography from the 1960sFrom donkey rides to deck chairs, the National Maritime Museum documents six decades of seaside life with its new exhibition, The Great British Seaside: Photography from the 1960s to the present. Running from March to September, the major photography show features over 100 works by four of Britain's most celebrated photographers: Martin Parr, Tony Ray-Jones, David Hurn and Simon Roberts. The works document the traditions, customs and eccentricities associated with the country's beaches and explore our changing relationship with the seaside over the last six decades. Among the works are 20 new photos by Martin Parr, taken in 2017 and commissioned especially for the exhibition.

 

About National Maritime Museum

Located in the heart of Greenwich, the National Maritime Museum has a monumental mission: to showcase mankind's association with the sea. The collection dates back to 1823 when a National Gallery of Naval Art was established, and the museum is housed in an elegant building which used to be an asylum.
