An all-star cast including Nigel Havers, Martin Jarvis, Sian Phillips and Cherie Lunghi, present, under their collective guise of The Bunbury Company of Players, the Oscar Wilde comedy which elegantly lampoons the hypocrisies of Victorian society. The Importance of Being Earnest famously stars two bachelors who swap identities in order to pursue two eligible ladies, Cecily Cardew and Gwendolyn Fairfax. But Lady Bracknell - "one of the greatest comic characters in British drama" (The Guardian) - is given all the best lines, memorably: "To lose one parent, Mr. Worthing, may be regarded as a misfortune. To lose both looks like carelessness." And most famously: "A handbag?" Lucy Bailey (Fortune's Fool, Dial M for Murder, Titus Andronicus for The Globe) directs.

About Harold Pinter Theatre

The Harold Pinter Theatre's 1881 interior is one of the oldest in London and one of the most charming, in spite of the damage wrought by an ill-considered restoration in 1954. The Renaissance-style auditorium, with its wooden panels, and gold ceiling and wallpaper, still retains many original features, while the unpretentious exterior is the most attractive and unspoilt among London's smaller theatres.
