The Knight of the Burning PestleThe Jacobean comedy written by Francis Beaumont, The Knight of the Burning Pestle, an uproarious play about a grocer and his wife returns to the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse from 11th December following a successful run here earlier in the year when the intimate indoor theatre at Shakespeare's Globe's was newly opened. Reviewing it at that time, Micheal Billington wrote in The Guardian, "It's a production that takes the play off the academic shelf and gives it new life, with lively performances all round". Beaumont's experimental play, written to be performed at the Blackfriars playhouse by the Children of the Queen's Revels, was one of the first madcap comedies to hit the English stage.

About Shakespeare's Globe Theatre

This replica of the Shakespeare's 16th century theatre, reconstructed just 200 yards from its original site, is the brainchild of American actor and director Sam Wanamaker. Built in wood and thatch, using techniques from 400 years ago, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre opened in 1996. More about Shakespeare's Globe Theatre
