The 1995 Ealing film comedy The Ladykillers is adapted for the staged by writer Graham Linehan. Featuring Peter Capaldi as petty criminal Professor Marcus, Ben Miller, Clive Rowe, and Marcia Warren as the innocent old lady Mrs Wilberforce. Capaldi follows in the footsteps of Alec Guinness, leading the cast as Professor Marcus, leading a ragtag group of law-breakers planning to rob a security van, who use the aged Mrs Wilberforce as their cover. From the outside, the Gielgud Theatre is an impressive sight, towering four storeys over Shaftesbury Avenue, its height further emphasized by the turret on top. The interior is also magnificent, with richly-decorated pillars supporting the boxes and lavish Baroque ornamentation. Built in 1906 and known as the Globe Theatre for most of the 20th century, it was renamed after the great actor Sir John Gielgud in 1994. More about Gielgud Theatre
