Following its successful season back in 2012, Simon McBurney once again brings his award-winning theatre company Complicite to the Barbican with a new adaptation of Mikhail Bulgakov's classic Soviet satire. In the novel The Master and Margarita there are two plot lines, one follows the last few days in the life of Jesus Christ, the other the chaos of Moscow, satirising the Soviet system and bureaucracy. While Pontius Pilate argues with Jesus about the nature of human worth, Satan comes to save the world. Happy-Go-Lucky actress Sinead Matthews, who is no stranger to the stage, takes on the role of Margarita, opposite Paul Rhys.

About Barbican Theatre

The Barbican Centre's two theatre spaces - the Barbican Theatre and The Pit - offer everything from gritty reality to far-flung fantasy, from dance to drama, from established artists to those at the start of their careers. One of the country's largest arts centres, the distinctive concrete walls of the Barbican continue to house high-quality theatrical productions. More about Barbican Theatre
