Three friends about to leave Cornwall for university, gather together for the last time, in a sea cave, to perform an ancient ritual, the Eueusinian Mysteries. As the waves begin to cut them off from the land, and the ritual deepens, hidden betrayals are discovered and the cave may hold other deep, dark secrets. Nick Whitby's drama is performed in the Hampstead Downstairs space, directed by Tim Carroll.
The Hampstead Theatre has existed in various forms since 1959, when it opened in a Scout Hall and its opening season in 1959 included two new plays by Harold Pinter, The Room and The Dumb Waiter. In 1962 the company moved to a portacabin in Swiss Cottage where it remained for nearly 40 years. More about Hampstead Theatre
