The Pajama GameChichester Festival Theatre has a happy knack of bringing first class musical revivals to the West End - with 'Singin' in the Rain', 'Sweeney Todd' and 'Kiss Me, Kate' - and that looks set to continue with its romantic comedy musical The Pajama Game heading to the Shaftesbury Theatre from 2nd May. Richard Eyre's production, which enjoyed a sold out three month run at the Chichester Festival Theatre last year, is the latest West End transfer for the theatre which is currently undergoing a £22million refurbishment project. Set in a pajama factory, the 1954 musical is based on Richard Bissell's novel '7 and a half Cents' and tells of a love affair between two of the workers, the new Superintendent Sid Sorokin and feisty union member Babe Williams. The cast includes Joanna Riding, who starred in the original and who also recently appeared in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Stephen Ward. She stars opposite Michael Xavier and Richard Eyre once again directs.

About Shaftesbury Theatre

A large and appealingly shabby Edwardian theatre which has produced almost a century of successful popular drama and musicals. The most notorious of these was Hair, infamous both for onstage nudity and an unfortunate ceiling collapse that terminated its near 2000 performance run. More about Shaftesbury Theatre
