Ever-green Jamaican reggae trio The Pioneers run through their classics for one night only at Camden's Jazz Café. It's a rare gig for one of the most successful and influential harmony bands of the late 60s, who burst onto the European music scene with the single Long Shot (Kick De Bucket), an ode to the passing away of a long-lived but undecorated racehorse, which was later covered by The Specials. The Pioneers' own version of Jimmy Cliff's uplifting Let Your Yeah Be Yeah probably remains their most memorable moment after breaking into the top five in the UK charts and putting a smile on many people's faces. Pioneers by name and nature, Sydney Crooks' trio were the first reggae band to ever tour Japan and, now in their fourth decade, still manage to put on a good show.About Jazz Cafe
The youngest and funkiest of London's live jazz venues is everything a jazz bar should be - small, friendly and in love with music. The live acts at the Jazz Cafe come from every genre influenced by jazz, and it's one of the best places in London to hear classic soul, old skool hip-hop and reggae and laid-back breakbeats.
