The Rat Pack Live is a daring concept that succeeds brilliantly - and it's back in the West End at the Adelphi Theatre for an autumn run. The show aims to capture the musical magic and the hilarious camaraderie that made this group of performers giants of the showbiz scene by recreating an evening in the lives of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Junior as they perform and party together. The songs are note perfect and the players succeed in recreating the humour that fizzed between the inseparable friends. There are only fleeting nods in this show to the dark shadows that clouded the lives of the Rat Pack, and even Sinatra, generally seen as a deeply flawed character, is sympathetic. This lightness of approach is entirely suitable however, as the show covers an evening when all three are in the mood for fun. It's a great production with a good script and performances backing up the centrepiece songs, which are, of course, magnificent.From 24th November the show becomes Christmas with The Rat Pack.

The Adelphi Theatre is a London institution - an historic venue with a long history of staging upscale musicals. Now a West End stalwart, it was once among the great innovators of London's popular theatre. It was the first theatre to use a sinking stage, a pioneer of gas lighting and the current building is a 1930s temple to progress, all straight lines, chrome and black marble.
