The Royal Opera: ToscaJonathan Kent's naturalistic production of Puccini's classic love story Tosca, much revived since it was first seen at the Royal Opera House in 2006, is set in the turbulence of Napoleon's invasion of Rome in the summer of 1800. Puccini's most famous opera, based on the play La Tosca by French dramatist Sardou, contrasts the passion of lovers Mario Cavaradossi and Floria Tosca with the lust of Baron Scarpia. "Handsome and traditional" says the Financial Times, "Opera with a capital O", says the Arts Desk.

About Royal Opera House

This impressive building in the heart of Covent Garden has been playing host to major stars of the classical music world since 1858. The third theatre to be located on this site, today's Royal Opera House is the result of a reconstruction in the 1990s (although the main auditorium is part of the original building).
