The Shed From 9th April 2013, the National Theatre opens The Shed, a temporary performance space at the front of the South Bank building which will be used to stage plays during the Cottesloe's closure. The distinctive red wooden box, designed by architects Haworth Tompkins who are also responsible for the refurbishment of the Cottesloe, will hold 225 seats and tickets will cost £12 and £20. The programme promises to be a celebration of new theatre, a mix of emerging and established artists, with performances by visitors from around the world and a range of unexpected collaborations.

About National Theatre

Each year the three superb venues in the National Theatre put on a significant proportion of the world's best productions. From intimate character studies in the Cottesloe (currently closed for refurbishment), to grand spectacles in the Olivier, the National Theatre is the spiritual centre of the British theatrical tradition.
