The Unicorn theatre presents The Tempest, Shakespeare's tale in which a powerful magician conjures his greatest enemy to the island where he has been banished with his daughter. This version, specially adapted by Carl Miller for children aged nine and over, is staged by Tony Graham, artistic director of The Unicorn since 1997. This follows Miller's recent play, The London Eye Mystery, shown at the Unicorn which itself had a "recurring Tempest motif" (The Times). The characters - a magician's daughter (the gauche teenage Miranda), a shipwrecked prince, an orphaned outcast, and a wandering spirit - are sure to appeal to a younger audience. And there's something magical about the four being stranded on an enchanted island. Shakespeare's verse remains in tact making this an excellent introduction to the Bard for younger viewers. As always, there are pre- and post-show workshops to help explore the plot, themes and characters through storytelling, poetry, movement and music to help breathe new life into Shakespeare's final play. Ages 9+
