David McVicar (legendary Scottish director) is returning to the London Coliseum with his production of Benjamin Britten's chilling chamber opera The Turn of the Screw for its first revival. The battle for a child's soul in this most terrifying of ghost stories gives this opera, inspired by Henry James's novella of the same name, a gripping dramatic force that is often only seen in naturalistic plays. Britten's haunting score and McVicar's theatrical instinct are a winning combination in propelling the action towards its tragic end. Originally staged at the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg and scooping the South Bank Show Award for Opera when it opened at the Coliseum in 2007, The Turn of the Screw captivated audiences and is returning with its acclaimed cast of Rebecca Evans, Timothy Robinson, Ann Murray and Cheryl Barker for just six performances.
