The VillageNewly appointed artistic director of the Theatre Royal Stratford East, Nadia Fall, starts her tenure by directing The Village, a new version of Lope de Vega's Spanish Golden Age classic Fuenteovejuna. In this adaptation by April De Angelis Fuenteovejuna is transported to contemporary India and set against a backdrop of political unrest, revealing how a community responds to tyranny. Anya Chalotra plays the lead role of Jyoti and Art Malik stars as the Inspector.

 

About Theatre Royal Stratford East

Theatre Royal Stratford East opened in 1884 and became the home of the Theatre Workshop Company in 1954. The first performance ever held here was 'Richelieu' by Lytton Strachey.
