Imelda Staunton, recently laden with awards for her performance in 'Vera Drake', plays another unstoppable matriarch in the Almeida Theatre's world premiere of Frank McGuiness's new play. 'There Came a Gypsy Riding' sees the McKenna family gathered for a birthday celebration in their windswept West Ireland holiday home, when the arrival of a long-lost cousin brings dark secrets into the open. Frank McGuiness has been responsible for some wonderful plays in the last five years, and this is perfect material for his lyrical dialogue and gallows humour.
