This Time in History: What EscapesEach time Edinburgh-based visual artist Rose Frain carries out her site-specific installation piece 'What Escapes' it is different; what binds its various incarnations together is the theme of looking beyond the official accounts of war and seeking out the traces of actual experience. Here the V&A has invited Frain to work with objects from its collection, reflecting on 1914. This forms part of the museum's WWI centenary commemorations.

About Victoria and Albert (V & A) Museum

The Victoria and Albert Museum (or V & A as everyone calls it) was originally founded in 1852 to inspire and educate British designers and manufacturers. Today it houses over 4 million items spanning centuries and hundreds of cultures. The stunning collection covers European, Indian, Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Islamic artefacts ranging from ceramics, glass, metalwork and sculpture to costume, armour, weaponry and furniture.
