Stripped of his deep layers of musical brilliance, the British composer and musician Thomas Ades performs in captivating simplicity with this alluring piano recital concert at Barbican Hall. Indisputably one of today's most gifted and important musicians, Ades wowed critics with his first symphony aged just 19 ("astonishing" - The Guardian) and three years later went on to give his first public piano recital in London. He has since added orchestral work, operas and an intensely virtuosic violin concerto to his accomplishments - and, still only 39, has been tipped by many to compose a song for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Tonight, Ades ("intellectually stimulating and emotionall visceral" - The New York Times) offers insightful interpretations of both his own and other composers' works.Programme:
Janacek Along an Overgrown Path - Book 2
Liszt / Wagner Isoldes Liebestod
Prokofiev Sarcasmes
Schubert Allegretto in C minor
Adès Concert Paraphrase on Powder Her Face (UK premiere)
Beethoven Op 126 Bagatelles
